Microsoft might be taking the Apple route with their closed, tightly controlled mobile platform these days, but that doesn't stop industrious hackers railing against the Windows Phone 7 oppression. Long Zheng, Rafael Rivera, and Chris Walsh took up the challenge and have release ChevronWP7, a Windows-based WP7 unlocking tool. Once jailbroken, you can then side-load applications onto your WP7 device, allowing applications Microsoft refuses to let into the Marketplace to be installed. Unlike the iOS world of jailbreaking, it's apparently possible to re-lock your WP7 device once you've got what you want installed, keeping end-users a little bit safer when roaming around on public networks.

So if you're a WP7 user and want to be able to side-load applications Microsoft doesn't want you to be able to use, then head on over to ChevronWP7.com for the full skinny, or download the application and get your jailbreak on.
